Rake is the way that online poker rooms and casinos make money. In every real-money pot that arises at a poker table, the online poker room deducted a small percentage (usually around 5%) of the pot and keeps it. Essentially, this is the commission, but in the poker world, it is referred to as "rake".

Rakeback is a popular concept with regular online poker players. To entice new players, the online poker room gives a percentage of a player's rake back to them. It could be thought of as online poker's equivalent of an airline's frequent flyer program and therefore, the more a player plays at a particular online poker room, the more rakeback they receive. In almost all cases, the rakeback is a straight forward percentage of the amount of rake paid by a player. It typically ranges between 25% and 35% depending on the room.

There are two methods that are used:
  • DEALT: Under this method, a player receives rakeback based on whether they were dealt into the hand. For example, if there are five players at a poker table, all players are dealt in and three players fold at the start (pre-flop) rather than call, they nonetheless receive one-fifth or 20% of the rake collected into that pot. This often benefits tight players as they can effectively earn rakeback on pots that they do not contribute one cent to.
  • CONTRIBUTED: Under this method, a player only receives rakeback where they contribute to the pot. Therefore, if a player folds preflop, they will not receive any rakeback on the rake taken in that pot. Generally, this method favours players who are looser or "high-action".

When your website is live, it will show sign up pages for each room that your customers can obtain rakeback with. On this page, there will be a special link (often referred to as a tracking link) to the online poker room. Your customers will need to click on this tracking link to visit the relevant online poker room's website, where they can then download the poker software. But using this tracking link, their account will be registered to your website and their account will therefore be registered to receive rakeback. The sign up page also contains a small form, where your customers need to enter the username or log-in details once they open their account. This allows us to verify that their account has been successfully registered for rakeback. The instructions provided on the sign up page are easy to follow.

Unfortunately, we cannot get existing accounts registered to us for rakeback. Accordingly, the customer concerned will need to open a brand new account by following the tracking link as with any other customers. Most online poker rooms do not allow a single player to hold two accounts under the same name.

If a customer signs up for rakeback through your website, the online poker room will pay us as an referrer (otherwise known as an affiliate) and the percentage of rake we receive is greater than the rakeback paid to the customer. As such, there are left over revenues that can be divided between ourselves as you. You obtain the majority of the remaining revenue and retain a small percentage (approximately 2%). For example, your website may offer customers 30% rakeback with a particular online poker room, but we received 40% of the rake generated by that customer. Accordingly, we will retain 2%, the customer will receive 30% and you will receive the remaining 8%.
